Diet has a significant influence on the relationship between the brain, gut microbiome, and immune system.
There is evidence linking these factors to cognitive function, anxiety, depression, and other mental disorders.
Evidence shows that stress and high-intensity activities can affect the gut microbiome. This can lead to cognitive dysfunction.
This PhD project examines how the diet of individuals affected their gut microbiome when they are under prolonged physical and mental demands.
This PhD project will identify the dietary factors that need to be assessed with regard to gut microbiome, how they can be measured and the translational implications of identified diet-microbiome relationships for mental and physical performance.
The research will be based on observational dietary assessments and fieldwork.
